About Western Union Global Scholars Program
W.U. Scholars was established to give young people a chance at a better future. According to the Western Union Foundation, education is the best way to achieve economic success. People all around the globe can climb the economic ladder by pursuing education to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for 21st-century careers.
The Foundation will offer two scholarships as part of its overall program. The first is an evolution of the WU Scholars program that targets international students from low-income countries studying in Australia, Canada, and Europe. It’s open to international students from all over the world.
The second is a renewal of our Project Finish Line initiative. It was launched last year in partnership with Western Union’s Black Advisory Council to support BIPOC students studying in the U.S.A., primarily from historically black colleges and universities in various STEM and business areas.
The Western Union Foundation has teamed up with the Institute for International Education to accept nominations and select awardees. I.I.E. will get nominations for the 2021 W.U. Scholars Program through October 15th. Students must nominate a representative of their higher education institution to invite them to apply for formal admission.
- Scholarships of up to $10,000 will be given to promising students in the final year or penultimate their degree programs.

Eligibility for Western Union Global Scholars Program
- You must be an international student enrolled in the 2021-22 Academic year (or the equivalent timeframe for universities that use other semester systems), and you should preferably reside in one of these countries: U.S.A., U.K., Europe, or Canada.
- Students in the final year of a full-time undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree program at an accredited higher education institution in one of the listed countries/regions are eligible for this program.
- You must be able to demonstrate financial need.
- You must be in good academic standing and have high ambitions.
For the semester of September-2021, five international students from accredited postsecondary institutions in Australia, Canada, and Europe are eligible to be nominated. All nominations must be submitted online.
If you nominate more than one student, please rank them according to financial need. “1” is the neediest, and “5” is the least. Please be specific about each student’s financial situation and personal circumstances.
Refugees, migrants, immigrants, or displaced students will receive preference. Please indicate if this is pertinent to the nominee in your nomination.
Students are more likely to be awarded if they access more personal and detailed information.
This program is for international students in their last year or penultimate year who have financial difficulties that could prevent them from completing their degree programs. The tuition and fees charged by the university will determine which scholars are eligible and how much they have to pay.
The western union foundation global scholarship program’s three pillars, Perseverance and Aspiration, will determine which candidates are selected. Select scholarship recipients will each receive USD 10,000 to help pay tuition and fees at an accredited postsecondary institution.
